Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian cricket team, and Jasprit Bumrah, the bowler, have been named among the five players in Wisden's 'Cricketers of the Year' for the 2022 edition of the Almanack. Apart from the duo, the Wisden Cricketer of the Year 2022 list also includes England pacer Ollie Robinson, New Zealand batsman Devon Conway, and Proteas Women's star Dan Van Niekerk. England's Joe Root has been named the 'Leading Cricketer in the World,' while Lizelle Lee of the South African Women's Team has been named the Leading Woman Cricketer by Wisden. Pakistan's wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan, on the other hand, has been named the 'Leading T20 Cricketer in the World.'
Joe Root is the 'World's Leading Cricketer,' according to Wisden 2022
After a remarkable year in which he amassed 1,708 test runs in a calendar year, England's Joe Root has been voted 'Leading Cricketer of the Year.' This is the third-highest total in history.
Wisden Cricketers of the Year
The Wisden Cricketers of the Year are the cricketers chosen by the annual publication 'Wisden Cricketers' Almanack' to receive the award. The decision was made primarily on the basis of their impact on the previous English season. The award was first given out in 1989, when Six Great Bowlers of the Year were named. In 1890, it was followed by 'Nine Great Batsmen of the Year.' The annual award has acknowledged the top five players of the year since 1897.
