Because some students in the West Bengal board's Class 10 examination wrote a popular political slogan on their answer papers, officials have decided to penalise examinees if they repeat the practise in the ongoing Class 12 exam. Examiners of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education's Madhyamik examination for class 10 discovered that a number of students had written 'Khela Hobe' (there will be a game), a slogan of the ruling Trinamool Congress, on their answer papers.
The exam was held last month. The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE), which organises the Uchcha Madhyamik examination, also known as the Higher Secondary (HS) exam for class 12, has stated that any candidate who writes political messages or draws on the answer papers will face disciplinary action.
"Examiners have been told not to evaluate such answer papers. There will be repercussions (against those who will write such matters). The Council will form a high-powered committee to decide on the severity of punishment "Chiranjib Bhattacharya, President of the WBCHSE, said on Wednesday. Writing political slogans, campaigns, or contentious issues that violate the WBCHSE's rules and guidelines will result in severe punishment, according to Mr. Bhattacharya.
