Highlights
Dr. S Raju has been named Director-General of the Geological Survey of India (GSI) as of April 1, 2022. R. S. Garkhal, who retired on March 31, 2022, is his successor. Dr. Raju previously worked at GSI Headquarters as the Additional Director General and National Head, Missions III and IV. Dr. S. Raju joined the Indian Geological Survey in 1988. Early in his career, he worked on geological mapping of the Bundelkhand Granitic Complex in Uttar Pradesh, as well as an investigation into gold mineralization and a geo-environmental appraisal of the Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh's Bundelkhand Region.
With his understanding, he has also contributed to Tamil Nadu geology, namely by establishing the metamorphic and tectono-magmatic history of the Sathyamangalam Group of rocks.
