Description

From the start of the new session next month, the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has devised a two-phase plan to bridge competency gaps caused by COVID-19 in children in Classes 3 to 9. The new academic session at Delhi government schools will begin on April 1, and it will be the first time that students will physically attend the new session after a series of coronavirus lockdowns in the previous two years, according to a statement from the Department of Education.

Himanshu Gupta, Director Education, called a meeting with all Deputy Directors of Education (DDEs) and Heads of Schools (HoSs) of Delhi government schools, instructing them to focus solely on emotional well-being and basic skills for kids in Classes 3-9.

According to the statement, the Department of Education has devised a two-phase action plan to overcome the competency gap among pupils.

Mr Gupta explained the rationale behind the strategy, saying that the class-by-class syllabus will be lowered to allow each child to not only rebuild their core competencies but also to build conceptual clarity before moving on to subject-by-subject themes.

In the new session, teachers will be properly taught to handle children's learning challenges and to implement the two-phase strategy in schools. The Director of Education will undertake a weekly assessment to examine the plan's implementation, according to the statement.

In the new session, the Happiness Curriculum, as well as numeracy and basic reading skills, will be taught for two hours everyday in Delhi government schools under Mission Buniyaad.

In the first week of April, a Mega PTM will be held to inform parents about Mission Buniyaad and to guarantee that their children attend regularly. Director of Education Gupta, Principal Advisor to Director Education Shailendra Sharma, and Additional Director (School) Rita Sharma met with HoSs and teachers to discuss the detailed action plan.
