The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched the national admission test for the Scheme for Residential Education for SC Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA). The program, which will be launched in the academic year 2022-23, aims to grant scholarships that will cover practically all of the educational expenses of deserving students from Scheduled Caste communities in Classes 9 and 11. Students interested in taking the test can register at official website.

The deadline to apply is April 14th.
Approximately 3,000 seats would be available in fully financed Central Government schools for students in grades 9 and 11. The admission exam will take place on May 7. The test will be held in all 50 states as well as the Union Territories. Students in grades 8 and 10 who belong to the SC category will be allowed to apply for the test.
The candidate's parent's annual income must be less than Rs 2.5 lakh to be eligible for registration.
According to a CBSE statement made earlier, the plan entails the direct delivery of scholarships to the schools admitting the shortlisted pupils.
The CBSE also stated that the scholarship covers school fees (including tuition fees and other expenses) as well as hostel fees (including Mess Charges etc.).
Only independent residential schools connected with the CBSE up to Class 12 are eligible for the scheme. It said that schools must have been open for at least 5 years and have a pass rate of at least 75% in Class 10 and 12 in the previous three years.
