Bhagwant Mann of the AAP will be sworn in as the new Punjab Chief Minister on March 16 at the hometown of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. On March 12, AAP CM-designate Bhagwant Mann visited Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh to submit his claim to lead the state government. According to Bhagwant Mann, "I met with the Governor, gave him a letter of support from our MLAs, and asserted my claim to form the government. He instructed me to inform him of the location of the swearing-in event. It will take place on March 16 at 12.30 p.m. at Bhagat Singh's hometown of Khatkar Kalan."
He stated that people from all across Punjab will attend the function and pay honour to Bhagat Singh. "We will have a good cabinet, and historic choices will be made that have never been made before. As a result, you will have to wait "He continued. On March 11, the 48-year-old was elected as the head of the AAP Legislature Party during a gathering of the party's MLAs in Mohali. The AAP gained 92 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly Elections 2022, decimating both the Congress and the Akali Dal and reducing them to 18 and 3 seats, respectively. AAP candidates beat major political heavyweights in the state, including SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal and Chief Minister Manmohan Singh. Sukhbir Singh Badal and previous Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, current Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, and Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu are among those present. Charanjit Singh Channi, the Punjab Chief Minister and a Congress politician, lost both of his seats, Bhadaura and Chamkaur Sahib. He handed in his resignation to the Punjab Governor yesterday and was told to stay till the new chief minister is sworn in.
