Description

On January 21, the states of Manipur, Meghalaya, and Tripura commemorate their statehood. The North Eastern Region (Reorganization) Act of 1971 was used to create these states.

History

In 1949, the princely kingdoms of Manipur and Tripura were annexed by India. They were thereafter given the status of a union territory. Meghalaya and Tripura were awarded full statehood in 1972. The North Eastern Region (Re-organization) Act of 1971 was used to create the states.

Formation

The Assam lowlands, North Eastern Frontier Tracts, and hill districts made up India's north eastern area in 1947. The princely kingdoms of united with India in 1949. They were created to function as union territories. Nagaland is a state that was established in 1963.

The Assam Reorganization (Meghalaya) Act was passed in 1969. Meghalaya was created as a separate state from Assam as a result of the act. This was done in accordance with the Indian constitution's sixth schedule.

The North Eastern Reorganization Act was passed in 1972. Meghalaya and Tripura were given full statehood. The NEFA and Mizo hills of Assam were also designated as union territories under the legislation.

In 1986, the Mizo Accord was signed. Mizoram is a state in northeast India. NEFA, or Arunachal Pradesh, was awarded full sovereignty in 1987.

Tripura

In Tripura, the Hindu Bengali people are the majority ethno linguistic group. Scheduled tribes make up 30% of the population of Tripura. Tripura's main ethnic language is Kokborok. The language is spoken by 19 tribes. Tripura has a tropical savannah climate.

Manipur

Sanaleibak and Kangleipak are two additional names for Manipur. Manipur has a population of three million people. Kuki, Meetei, Pangal, and Naga are among them. Manipur was amalgamated with India in 1949 when the Maharaja of Manipur, Budhachandra, signed the Treaty of Accession Meetelion is Manipur's official language, It's also known as Manipuri, They also communicate in Sino-Tibetan languages.

Meghalaya

"Abode of Clouds" is the name of the state of Meghalaya. Meghalaya was formed by combining the Assam districts of Garo, Khasi, and Jaintia hills,  Forests occupy 70% of the state's land area. The state is home to India's wettest area.
